B00ze Review: Hogue in General
Sep. 1st, 2004 09:26 pmHogue appears to be a winery to keep an eye on these days-- in the past month or so, I've had their Merlot, the Hogue Genesis cabernet sauvignon and cab/merlot blend, and the previously-mentined gewurztraminer. None of these have disappointed. The Hogue Genesis merlot was maybe a little generic, but certainly well worth the 9 or 10 bucks for the bottle. The cab was more-- 28ish for the bottle-- but also well worth that, as it was tasty and complex and went well with the pasta and tomato sauce I chose to accompany it. The cab/merlot blend was a good midpoint, with the merlot doing enough merlot things to balance out the hugeness of the cabernet.
I can only begin to recommend these enough. All the Hogue reds I've tried have been at the very least, good. At the best, they've been very good. And again, the gewurz was exceptional.
I've got their other whites lined up for my later delectation, and I have high hopes. The Genesis reds will be restocked soon, for general stocking-up needs. Recommended, overall.
