I wish I could say this was the weirdest webmaster mail ever:

From: samuel ifediora <[obscured]@yahoo.com>
Subject: teach me.
To: webmaster@WPI.EDU

GOD BLESS YOU,
PLEASE I WANT TO KNOW ABOUT SOAPS AND DETERGENTS,
THEIR COMPOSITION AND THEIR CHEMICAL REACTIONS.

Must be a new variation of the 419 scam? Once you teach them all about soaps and detergents, they come to your house and CLEAN YOU TO DEATH!

...or they want to know how to make explosives, and think that webmasters are a likely talent pool.

I'm not sure exactly what that implies about perceptions of the US computer industry.

Or it's an FBI sting operation. Provide information on the critical chemical properties of detergents to the "dangle" agent, and it's off to Cuba as a threat to national security.

Sometimes, I think they have spambots.

No, I'm positive they have spambots.

And they laugh at us, too.

I'm just not sure who.

This reminds me of a younger cousin of mine who, in his early to mid teens, had this fascination with laundry soap. He had a collection in his room and loved smelling it. He would get bozes of detergent and was incredibly elated to receive it. Supposedly, he wanted to smell like his Uncle Frank who he thought was a total stud and babe magnet or something, even given that Frank had been exclusively married 20 years by that point.

This same younger cousin thought for a while of going into Sanitation Engineering, so has seemed to be olfactorily centered. I think now, fittingly, he drives a laundry delivery van for a uniform company. He claims he has the job because the hours and pay are good, and he doesn have to work nights, but I'm not sure I entirely believe him.
