In The The Aeroplane Over The Sea
May. 23rd, 2004 05:16 pmI have never had an album grow on me song-by-song like this... All I need is to really get into "Communist Daughter" now, and I'll really dig the whole thing. Some parts were easy-- "In The Aeroplane Over The Sea" is a pop song with catchy lyrics. "Holland, 1945" is bouncy and zippy (and, it seems, about Anne Frank. I'd been wondering, and now it all makes sense). I had been sort of resistant to "Two-Headed Boy" but I just caught myself really enjoying it. I've liked "Ghost" and the instrumental that follows it since first hearing the album. It's really an ALBUM, too. The whole thing fits together in sequence, and individual parts (with the possible exception of the title track) flow together and work together better as a whole than as individual tracks.
Okay, so I'm like five years late to the Neutral Milk Hotel party, but who cares? This is a good album.
