Okay, so, a couple of weeks ago my grandmother had her knee replaced. I've always been fascinated by replacement body parts-- knee surgery, hip joins, and that kind of thing-- but I never knew much about how they were installed. Today, imagine my delight at discovering a web site with virtual knee surgery! It walks you through replacing a knee from start to finish. It's really neat! It might wig you out, but it's all done in flash, so it's really pretty cartoony.

Heh, I have some oral surgery on thursday (wisdom teeth) and they sent me this link to log in where they have like a flash movie describing the various problems and exactly what the whole thing entails. I guess they do it for all sorts of procedures.

Too bad you need a password, or you could watch too.

I've always thought replacement parts were cool, my interest fueled by the fact my house was full of them. My dad kept a titanium hip joint in the top drawer of his desk and had these bokes with replacement phalanges in one of the cupboards in his den. All over his office he had little plastic replicas of joints and bones and skeletal structures that medical companies would give to him.

Really neat stuff

You should try the Museum of Science. They have a video of a hip replacement... *shudder*
