and stolen keyboard/synth gear in that case would be really annoying. your auto insurance probably covers the stereo since it is ``a part of'' the car, whereas it probably doesn't cover random expensive stuff in the trunk. and insurance on your random belongings in your home may not apply when they're in your car, especially if you're using those belongings to make money. (and, furthurmore, insurance companies really don't like claims against homeowner's insurance for random small stuff; photographers sometimes ``save money'' by covering their cameras with their homeowners insurance, only to get eited when the insurance company starts getting annoyed about the small claims, and then insists that they have to pay a lot more for homeowner's insurance if they want their home insured in the future.)
Ya. I have homeowner's insurance, and they would probably handle it... I always have to make sure I tell them I'm not making any money playing music. (Heh, as if.)
But, yeah. I don't want to have to, and I don't want larger premiums in the future or anything.
So, there do exist insurance policies specifically for musical gear, where I believe a claim will not have negative repurcussions wrt homeowner's insurance, and where the making money thing ceases to be an issue...

So, it could have been FAR worse.
