You've never heard me talk about those? Coil guns are far superior to rail guns, since the resultant forces don't give you a tendancy for the gun to rip itself in half axially, but instead gives you a differential tension in the wire coil. The amount of power you can pump through them because of that single factor is increased dramatically, AND you can use a single wire coil instead of needing large rails, thereby cutting weight down drastically too. A photo-flash capacitor and small ~12 volt battery is all you need for some incredible effects without having to wait a day between shots to charge. AND because it's a spiral, the induction of the projectile provides for rifling IN THE FIELD. I could go on, but... ... now you see they are superior in every way, except they don't sound quite as cool by name.
