So, I tend to wake up with headaches on weekends. This makes me grumpy.

Today I woke up with a headache and then drank several cups of tea. Now my headache is gone.

Hum.

I get that too. I think it's because I drink more caffeine during the week at work.

I know full well that it is. Bleh.

I had a friend who used to get himself addicted to caffeine and then kick every six months or so, because, he said, it felt SO GOOD when you finally kicked. I dunno.

I'm prone to headaches of a wide variety. Back during my tech support days, i was heavily addicted to caffeine, so i would get monster withdrawal headaches on weekends. And, of course, the only thing that makes them go away is more caffeine. I managed to back off from the huge intake of caffeine; nowadays, i'll just have a cup of coffee and a soda or two a day, on average.

Have you ever mapped out your caffeine intake? You'll probably find a couple of things you could drop out and not even notice later.

Weekdays, 1 cup of coffee every morning around 10.
Sometimes a soda at lunch. Sometimes a soda at dinner.

Sunday morning, a small pot of tea (3-4 cups, over the course of the morning).

That's it. Very little chocolate and that sort of thing.

Huh. That's nothing. Maybe your alien probe is malfunctioning.

I used to do that, too. There was also the bonus that when you did start drinking the stuff again it *really* gave you a buzz. Made it so much more enjoyable...

(This, incidentally, is why I refuse to smoke when sober -- I'd lose the nice effects of smoking if I did it all the time.)

These days I drink a whole lot less than I used to (at the sausage factory we had a great espresso machine, so I'd have something like eight really strong cups/day), to the point where I've even started drinking caffeine-free/sugar-free soda a fair bit.

My headaches from caffeine seem to be different then just a "normal" headache. Can you tell the difference yourself? Also, caffeine is a common ingredient in many pain killers, more so in migraine medication. So even if its just a normal headache, it wouldn't surprise me that the caffeine helped it..

This week has been especially bad for pressure headaches because of the weather. Caffiene is the best thing for those kinds of headaches.. it kills them almost instantly. You can't fully blame addiction.

I get headaches from dehydration.

No. Really. If I wake up really dry, sometimes I also wake up with a headache. The headache goes away after I fix the dryness.

This tends to happen on weekends, because I tend to sleep signifcantly longer, and therefore get more dehydrated, which is why I mention it.

I also get dehydration headaches. I also find that dehydration can keep me awake at night when I'd rather be sleeping. A few glasses of water fixes either problem for me.

In this case, it wasn't, since I woke up earlier, got a glass of water, and went back to sleep again...

Maybe allergies? I know yours have been bad recently and it could be a sinus headache or something....

Oh good, glad to hear from [livejournal.com profile] didicam that my headaches are actually from the weather (which isn't unusual for me, come to think of it....evil weather!) I thought I was going mad or something, my head and sinuses have been going bloody BONKERS this entire week. Ugh!

Separately, if I have a dehydration headache, one glass of water won't fix it. I often need 2 or 3. And my dehydration headaches tend to be combined with some serious lethargy. YMMV.

Getting off the caffeine habit is a good thing, IMO. I used to drink 1 or 2 Coca-Colas a day, and would get weekend headaches without my caffeinated soda. Now I can occasionally have a Coke and get a nice caffeine zing from it. :-) Plus, getting rid of soda is an easy way to cut empty calories from your diet.

I've got to agree. I almost never have caffeine nowadays, and I don't miss it. Plus, if I ever need to stay awake for some reason, a single cup of coffee will now prevent me from falling asleep for six hours, guaranteed.

You said you wake up with headaches on weekends so I think it's just plain ol' Murphy's Law syndrome...
