dugga dugga dugga
Sep. 4th, 2003 09:28 pmI have become exceptionally blase about drilling holes in expensive things.
The new car stereo has a DIN-sized sleeve that fits into a bracket to hold it in the dashboard of my decidedly non-standard auto. Of course, the screw-holes in the sleeve don't line up with the screw-slots on the bracket. My solution? Makita! Now it fits perfectly.
Admittedly, the sleeve is just a little bit of cheap steel, and if I messed it up, it's symmetrical, so I really had two chances to get it right, but still. If I'd been horribly off with my drilling, it would have been messy and unfortunate, and I would have found out exactly how well Crutchfield's return policies work.
Speaking of which, if anyone would like to get $20.00 from Crutchfield, let me know. I have a code people can use if they order sometime soonish.
I'm quite happy with the bale of documentation and stuff they send you when you buy a car stereo. I now know how to take apart my dashboard and doors and everything. They give you the wiring harness and diagrams and stuff that you need to hook up all the power and speaker wires and everything, and claim to offer all kinds of phone support if you need it. I don't think I will, though. Barring the minor screw-hole problem, everything is going extremely well.
