fatherin'.
Mar. 1st, 2010 11:43 amI discovered, a couple of days ago, something that may change the face of parenting as we know it.
See, in the evening, the baby likes to nap, but he doesn't fall asleep well if he's not being walked around and surrounded by noise-- ideally white noise, but other kinds of noise work as well. This has, in the past, led to lengthy impromptu bathroom dance sessions with the fan on, and to bored wanderings throughout the house.
I was thinking about this, though, and realized that I had the solution to both baby sleepin' and father boredom right in front of me-- in my very living room!
See, I like to play guitar in Rock Band, and when I play, I tend to kind of bop around, 'cause, you know, ROCKING OUT.
So I strapped on the baby, picked up the plastic guitar and (after a brief search for fresh batteries), proceeded to play me some Rock Band.
At first, I played at kind of an angle to the screen, since the baby loves The Glowing Rectangle and he could watch what was going on.
About 3 songs in, though, I noticed something-- he'd gone all floppy and was no longer watching the screen. In fact, he'd fallen asleep. He slept for about an hour-- long enough for me to get my mad chops back, since I haven't played Rock Band in, like, 5 months and 4 days. It was great! He got rest; I didn't get bored. Magical!
I think I win parenting.
