a note to blog designers
Jan. 26th, 2010 01:16 pmIt's really irritating, when I'm reading through a blog archive, to find links at the bottom of each page that read "Next Page" and "Previous Page" or some variation thereof without explicit mention of the chronology of those pages.
I have seen blogs where "Next Page" moves the reader back in time through the archive and "Previous Page" moves the reader forward in time. This kind of makes sense if you think of Next and Previous as the order one reads these pages when starting at the newest post, but I have also seen blogs where "Next" moved FORWARD in time, and "Previous" moved BACK in time. This appears to be a totally arbitrary choice made by the blog designer, who may or may not have any idea how people want to read the blog being designed.
In the future, please do not use "Next" or "Previous" or "Forward" or "Back" or anything as vague. Please explicitly state "Older Posts" and "Newer Posts" or even the actual dates in question. This will save lots of confusion and will be less annoying.
Thank you.
