However, one really great thing: Home Sharing, and the ability to sync libraries between systems! HOLY CRAP I've wanted this. I vaguely considered writing my own.
I have 2 systems for which this is mostly important-- 1: my laptop. 2: my work computer. (3: possibly my home PC but that's not as big a deal. 4: Nikki's laptop if she wants.)
Just copying files has been easy enough, but my work computer and my laptop present issues. I primarily sync my iPod to my laptop. No big deal, right? However, I often download music to my work computer, because, hey, I'm there, right? I want to listen to things then and I might as well. However, this means that I may have things at work that I want to listen to on my iPod or at home, and either I have to remember what it was and download it separately or I have to make sure I separate out new stuff, or make a note of it or whatever. Eh, too annoying.
So now I can set them both up as "Home Sharing" computers and sync them. Whoo.
Ideally I won't find out later that there's some kind of ridiculous thing like, if the subnet changes (since my work and home networks obviously aren't the same...) they break, thus making it more difficult to use my laptop as a sort of music shuttle between work and home... Remember pre-lockdown iTunes library sharing, when you could type in an IP address and hit the libraries of random people on the internet, and how cool that was before it was disabled? Well, yeah. I hope the same thing doesn't happen here.
Anyway, yay. Even if the rest of it is pointless or unexciting (I have to admit that I do like the potential for bundled album art and DVD-type extras) that's worth it for me. Blah blah, fanboy fanboy. I do like my new laptop.
