Popdose, a site I read fairly regularly for the music reviews and stuff, has posted a review/discussion of Dinosaur Jr. playing in Riley Commons in 1997.

I would guess that a few of my delightful readers were there...

I was about to complain about the lack of good concerts when I was at WPI, but we *did* get KRS-ONE. I guess it also means that WPI actually became better at booking appropriate bands: instead of awesome bands that nobody there likes, they now consistently book crappy bands that the kids want to see.

Yeah, the post-Dag-and-folks era was pretty sad, I think. They probably blew most of that term's (and possibly that semester's!) budget on that one show, too.

I take it you missed the days of TMBG, Sister Machine Gun, Black 47, Los Straitjackets etc.?

Oh, and Guster (before they got popular and were much better IMHO)

Didn't they break up immediately after that show? Like, "backstage at Riley" after?

Goddamn it, [livejournal.com profile] lucasthegray and [livejournal.com profile] purple_dj tell a story about a band breaking up immediately after playing WPI. I could have sworn it was Dinosaur Jr!

I dunno... I know Think Tree didn't last long afterward, but that was before their time. Also, Scratch Monkey broke up on-stage, as did MSF one of the times we got in fights. (That was my fault, heh.)

I worked security at that show, and remember it sucking horribily. It may have been my first show where I got stuck working backstage and didn't get to do anything interesting. ;)
