Man. This week's Rock Band downloadable songs are like my taste in music in middle school and high school... Duran Duran, "Rio" and "Girls on Film" and Devo's "Girl U Want" and "Through Being Cool." Yeah.

The Duran Duran sounds like it'll be really really really hard on bass, as it should be. "Rio" is easy on guitar until after the breakdown and then it gets suddenly really really hard. "Girl U Want," well, I 5-starred it the second time through, and that only because I don't have the solo down. "Through Being Cool" will be the same, I bet, especially since I've been air-guitarring to that solo since I was 15.

Rock Band 2 next month, too. "Hungry Like The Wolf" (ahgahd. Will they make the singer moan along with the awful American version?) and "Uncontrollable Urge," which should rock. Rock Band 2, in general, has some pretty decent songs. "PDA," for one, and "Psycho Killer," and I expect "Bodhisattva" will be a pretty serious finger-breaker. I mean, some annoying stuff, too, but heck. "Round and Round?" RATT?? Sheesh. (I kinda like that song.)

Anyway.

I'm still waiting for "Bullet With Butterfly Wings". *tries not to be too impatient*

We're picking up the full bundle for RB2 -- we put enough wear on the original ones that we're thinking having a spare set would not hurt at all.

My drum kit is, sadly, in fine shape. :( We don't have much space in our living room, you see.

I'll probably pick up the Mad Catz Telecaster controller if that ever ships, though. And maybe their P-Bass controller, since it has (rather awesomely) two strum bars so you can play 2-finger upstrumming bass, for a more, uh, vaguely realistic bass experience.

We're planning on putting the old set in the rafters in the garage. (: It's really just intended as backup.

I'm also looking at that P-Bass and hoping it's all it's cracked up to be. I'd love to have one, since I've picked up playing real bass thanks to Rock Band. *sheepish grin* Word is they'll be shipping September 1. I'm just debating whether I can really justify $70 for a plastic bass ... ^_^;

I have a warm spot in my heart for "Round and Round" after singing it in 4th or 5th grade chorus. Odd.

Is it the guitar-heavy version of "Girl U Want", or the more keyboardy one?

Sounds like it's the version from Freedom of Choice, so more guitar-heavy.

It's actually a new recording for the game but it is supposed to be more like the guitar-heavy version (I have not yet heard it).

Girl U Want as well as Through Being Cool? I know they re-recorded Through Being Cool (and stuck a rock outro on it), but Girl U Want sounded very similar to the version on Freedom of Choice.... I haven't listened to the Rock Band version more than once or twice though, or done much of a comparison...

I could be mistaken about Girl U Want.
