Octo closeup, originally uploaded by solipsistnation.

This was part of a box of random mostly junk watches from a guy on eBay. It's my current favorite.

From nice simple old watches, to, well have you seen JlC's new reverso gyrotourbillon?

Yeah, I have... Super-pretty, super-complicated, and, of course, super expensive. Plus after considering watch ownership, I realized that I am a little dubious about having a small, easily-losable object worth more than my car (or, you know, a house) on my wrist... I suspect I'll be sticking with my random weird old things for a while longer. 8)

I especially like that it has a cylindrical hairspring rather than the traditional flat kind. That's neat.

Oh absolutely agree with all you've said. Still those uber-complicated innovative designs (also seen Greubel-Forsey's double/quad/incliined tourbillon watches) are irresistible fascinating.
