I feel so dirty. I just bought an Xbox360.

It's all for the sweet sweet Harmonix-flavored crack that's coming out next month, though. Totally. But still. Ew.

It's actually a fantastic console. I'm incredibly impressed with it, and while I think the Wii is probably the future, the 360 stands as the best console out there for the dedicated gamer.

Yeah, I like the xbox live stuff, and the idea of downloadable content for things like Rock Band. And being able to play demos! On a console! So I've got the wireless network adapter and a spare controller and a rechargey pack and so on. I'm looking forward to messing with it and seeing how it all works.

You were influential in this decision. I hope you're happy. :P (I'll probably pick up Skate, so I can duplicate your awesome getting-run-over-by-cars moves.)

Happy to have influenced ya.

Skate is incredibly fun! It's probably my favorite game I've played on the 360 so far. Especially when you consider that 28% of my gamerscore comes from that game alone. It definitely kept me more engaged than BioShock. As much as it pains me to say that.

Yeah... Do you think Bioshock would have been more engaging if you hadn't steeped yourself in System Shock 2? Everyone I've talked to who played SS2 had pretty much the same reaction we did, while people who haven't seem to really love it...

I hadn't thought of that. I found it more fun to watch, I think, thinking to myself "Ooooh, he doesn't realize that guy's gonna be eviiiiiiil."

My old housemate had a 360. I never played any of the games that were bought, but the downloadable retro-stuff was awesome. Actually playing 4-man gauntlet again was great! Also, find Outpost Kaloki on the downloads, if you haven't already. It's super fun.

Wow, you get a job at Verisign, you buy a Microsoft console... what horrible crime against propriety is next?

Bah, I'll get Rock Band for the PS3. :-)

Though I have been tempted to get a 360 just for Space Giraffe, which is a Yak game you can download. It is effectively Tempest 20,000. Blows your mind.

Yeah, I was considering a PS3 versus an XB360, and a difference of $200 or so and more games I'd actually play led me to the 360. And, yeah, Space Giraffe, AKA "what I'm going to attempt to download tonight when I get home unless I fall asleep or don't really feel like bothering because it'll be 1:30 in the morning." I haven't played any YaK games since T2K, so this should be a blast.

If by "blows your mind" you mean "makes it so impossible to distinguish foreground objects from background objects that your eyes start to bleed"...

That's all part of the JOY of a Llamasoft game. You have played Tempest 2000, right?

Heck, I even played Defender 2000 back in the day. THAT was a bastard of a game, for sure.

I quite enjoyed Gridrunner (though I've played the original Tempest much more than the 2000 remake), but even then the background was not nearly as intrusive as Space Giraffe's.

What's your gamertag? (same as your lj name, I'm guessing). fluX0 here - that's a zero at the end, and yes it's a rubbish tag but I've had it since the original Xbox. There's loads of us playing Halo 3 at the moment, of course, but also up for Flatout: Ultimate Carnage, Gears, Bomberman, Worms...

Presumably you alrady got the Orange Box on PC - there'll be a few of us playing TF2 on Live once I get my copy.

I haven't set it up yet, but I'll send you an invite later today.

But, yeah, it'll be the same assuming it's not already taken... I'm late to the party, so you never know.

You know, I'm probably also going to get a 360 for myself, but there are some factors at play here.

-I think VF5 is out now, which is one of the motivating reasons.
-If [livejournal.com profile] sarron wants to get Guitar Hero III for 360 instead of for Wii, I'd probably move up my timetable so we can jam in multiplayer.
-Rock Band.
-If the new chip design is still failing on people like I have heard, I'm not motivated to go buy one just to have a 30% chance of having to deal with customer service.
