moving house
Jul. 24th, 2007 08:37 amYesterday we actually visited our new apartment for the first time. We were on the waiting list for a couple of months, and our number came up a couple of weeks ago, but we hadn't had a chance to visit. (Somebody was still living there, after all.)
Yesterday we went for an orientation thing (it's on-campus, and part of, uh, well, they're trying to build a community or something crunchy like that so they're a little more hands-on than your typical apartment complex, although not as nightmarish as a condo residents association) and afterward, visited our new home. It's very cute. It's smaller than anywhere I've lived in a while, but has a huge living room and a balcony and stuff. And it has a sea view.
From the balcony (and from the bedroom windows), you can look straight southwest, down the hills that isolate Santa Cruz from the rest of the world and across the city, over the bay, and all the way to the Monterey Peninsula, floating over the sea on a bed of clouds. It's beautiful, and we're far enough from the city that there won't be a lot of light or noise, and at last, at last, our stay in San Purgatiorio is at an end. Tomorrow we go rent a van, drive to Ikea, buy a bed and perhaps a couch and some spare bookcases, and then come back to the waiting place, pick up most of our stuff, and head for the coast.
There is the minor problem of our books and stuff, which are still in storage and may stay there for another couple of weeks, but hey, we've been doing fine here... What's another week or so without bookshelves? At least we'll have a bed. And at least we won't be in San Jose any more. (But I will miss Mitsuwa.)

I never had a view when I lived there... Boulder Creek didn't, and when I lived on Doane it was close to the sand but still? no view...
(re: moving in... I'm assuming there are elevators?)
