Wulp, that's pretty much it for my stay at WPI. My office is cleaned out (barring a clipboard and a pocket kite I'm going to have another try at on my way home tomorrow, and the bottle of MD20/20 Phil gave me a couple of years ago), we had an ice cream gathering thingy, I shook everyone's hands and told everyone our plans about 40 times, and that was it. I took 3 or 4 boxes of books and toys and random office stuff out to the car and drove it home.

Tomorrow I'm going to walk up to campus. I probably won't even bring my laptop and bag and stuff. I'll go in, give back my keys and phone and stuff, wipe the disks on my workstation, probably have some passwords changed and be removed from the sudoers file, talk to Al about anything that might be left over and about keeping in touch for when things inevitably come up that I forgot to tell anyone about, and then I'll go home.

So of course after being so horrible all winter, Worcester and WPI have been extra-pretty for the past couple of days. Of course, it hit 93 today and is starting to get humid, so THAT won't last. We'll leave town just in time for it to get nasty.

I got to poke around the current SFS library, which was pretty neat. It's in the old Newspeak offices in Riley, for people who know where that was. Quite a step up from the tiny broom closet we had when I was librarian, or the weird back room in the gym we moved to. They still appear to be using the same shelves we acquired then, and they have a box of my old AD&D books. Hooray!

On the way out, carrying the last box of random office stuff (headphones, toys, random pens and trade show loot I actually want to keep), I ran into somebody from the ATC. She asked if that was my WPI career there in the box. No, I said, my WPI career is up in the server room.

What a stupid, ignorant thing for her to say. I mean, really. Moron. I'm so glad you're getting out of there, though I wish I could have been there today.

We're finishing our current jobs on the same day, so I won't get to see you until after you've gone. Good luck, and I can't wait to read about your West Coast adventures!

I wish I could have been there today too. Did Al give you a speech? Did you get a group gift, and if so what was it?

Can you e-mail me your new mailing address once you have it?

P.S. I totally *heart* the old Newspeak office. I went in once after they converted it and if I remember correctly they even left the old Newspeak logo painted on the wall. I wish I had taken advantage of the steam tunnel access while I had keys...

The steam tunnels aren't that great. Steamy. Industrial. Not very good w/out lots of keys to get in/out.

Now *I* feel nostalgic. And I didn't even ever go to WPI or see those rooms you mention. I guess I just have some sort of second-hand psychic connection to WPI because I'm close to a lot of people who care about it. I mean, I really sometimes have to make an momentary but conscious effort to remember that I didn't attend that school.
