As the obesession continues, I have acquired the DVD of Andrei Tarkovsky's Stalker. It's 3 hours of Russian science fiction filmmaking at its finest.

I think I will acquire some vodka and settle in for an evening. I will make up a drinking game. Drink whenever there is a slow and near-silent pan across a desolate landscape! Drink whenever the subtitles reveal a poorly-translated metaphor! Drink whenever there's something on the screen that's an actual real terrible carcinogen that probably resulted in the untimely death of somebody on the film crew! Hooray!

About 9 or ten years ago I got on my old school sci-fi kick. Did Solaris, Stalker, 2001 the whole incredibly long deal.

Interesting movies, every last one of them. They are also just painfully long and slow.

I thought Solyaris (which I loved) was better than Stalker (which I liked but should probably watch again). Attention span & comfortable chair required. With that drinking game, you just may make it through the opening scene :)
