I have a new icon so y'all know when you can roll your eyes, say "Sheesh, another stupid ATITD post" and skip an entry. Check out my dour expression and pointy little Egypt hat. What you don't get to see is that the breastplate/tunix thingy there doesn't quite reach the Egypt Skirt my avatar is wearing, so the overlal impression is pertty dubious. It's like a mid-80's cutoff shirt over a linen kilt. Yeah. Check it out at the bottom of the page here. Plus, if you zoom in close in the game itself, you can see that the avatar's facial expressions are all blank and glassy-eyed and they sway slightly, like they've just been smacked in the back of the head and are about to fall over on their little Egypt faces.

Anyway.

I am posting today because, against all odds, I have made it to the second round of elections in The Test of the Demi-Pharaoh, and I have a not-inconsiderable chance of making it to the third and final round. If that happens, I'll be up against whoever else has made it to the third round (probably 4 or 5 others players), and I will have to campaign for votes from all of Egypt. If I'm elected, I pass what is probably the most difficult test in the game and am awarded the power to ban 7 players from the game. (In all of ATITD2, which ran for more than a year, 15 or so Demi-Pharaohs were elected, and a total of 3 people were banned, ever.)

I am pretty sure I can pass the second round, but the third will be a little tougher. Still, I never thought I'd make to round 2 at all, so I'm pretty thrilled anyway. Of course, one of the people I have to defeat in round 2 is one of my oldest in-game friends... And looking at the other round 2 groups, I'm almost certain to be up against other friends. That's why this test is so hard-- some people don't even sign up because it's so competitive, the stakes are so high, and you end up facing off against friends and allies.

If anyone reading this is interested in playing and would like a hand getting through the early stages of the game (citizenship, a bit of resource-grinding, and so on), download the client (at the embarassingly bad web site) sign up and get in touch in-game...

And yes, that website is so much worse than I was even imagining. (Took about 5 seconds for the background image to show up... shudder.)

I was interested in it at one point, but wound up being utterly unable to deal with the interface -- I wanted to be able to do more stuff with keyboard commands, and having to do click-to-move all the time drove me bonkers ...
