Here! Have a glass of peat moss!

Which one? The 10yo is too peaty for me, but I quite like the 30yo cask strength...

This is the 10, the most easily available without actually leaving Worcester.

It's sort of an experiment. I'm still a noob, really-- I've read Raw Spirit and I'm trying things that sound interesting. The 18-year Highland Park was a rousing success, and this is another, but differently so. I can certainly see why people say Laphroaig is an acquired taste. I actually like the aggressive peat, although I don't think I'd pick this for a relaxing sort of evening boozery, but it's definitely interesting and worth keeping around.

Yeah, anything past the 10 is tough to come by. I know a few places out this way to get decent stuff if you're interested in a journey.

I wasn't real impressed with the 18HP, but that's due to a friend having a special 20-ish direct from the distillery (got it while touring). I couldn't stand Macallan until I had a bottle from the SMWS, though. Mmmmmmmm. If I lived Over There, I'd be way more into it, as you can try-before-you-buy through them. But since I don't drink lots, having lots of open bottles is counterproductive.

Gah. I hate it when other people use my machine to read LJ. *ahem*

There's two places in Waltham that are pretty good, and the brookline liquor mart which is awesome.

Yeah, I figured it must be you. Even in fairly short paragraphs, your writing has a distinctive flavor to it. Much like (dare I say it?) Laphroaig.

(...and I can still smell the peaty smoke from the residue drying in the bottom of my glass, two feet away and a good hour old... It's like a campfire, which might mean I'm really getting a nostalgia kick from drinking the smell of childhood memories...)

I haven't been out your way in quite a while, actually.

laphroaig tastes like bacon.

does kendal taste like bacon? i don't think so. they're two very separate situations.

(but yes, it's been an awful long timee since we went out to see them. since i was but a wee freshman, these many years passed.)

I don't *think* I taste like bacon. Well, except for that one time when I burned my arm with the bacon grease...

we should be due for a party out here in the not too distant future. :-)

I write like a peat bog!! Woohoo!

Hm, I need to get myself a decent wine cooler (no, not bartles & james), so I can get more wine and port. Mmmmmmm.

heh. Laphroaig is one of the few which i know by taste AND smell. A friend was drinking scotch the other day, sat down next to me, and i looked at him and said, 'you're drinking Laphroaig, aren't you?'. and yes, i like it's 'aggressive' earthiness as well.

"You know, that single malt whisky's not bad, but you know what would really make it better? Let it soak in a bucket full of burnt pine needles!"

I bet you like spruce beer, too.
