I sure wasn't expecting one of my compute cluster and SGI users to show up with a quote for a 24-CPU Cray XD-1 system this afternoon...

Oooooh, I hope I can get to play with it, yes indeeed.

(He, at least, will get LOTS of use out of it. He's been running the cluster and the SGI full-bore for months.)

Let me know if the Cray XD-1 has a Big Red Button on top of it. Rumor has it Seymour believes in an "Off, Dammit!" switch.

(When I was in college, one of the operators succumed to curiousity about the big red friendly button on top of the new baby Cray. After the breaker was reset, part of his penance was to send out mail describing what happened in great detail, so no one else would be curious.)

It's OK, the other two power cords are still connected, and the machine just sent a page to Guido Kneebreaker to investigate why one of the power supplies just went dead.
