Jan. 22nd, 2005 04:33 pm...the Fake Les Paul will be ready to go and playable tomorrow evening, or Monday at the latest.
Broken screw drilled out. Hole filled with teensy little dowel and sanded smooth. New tuners awaiting installation. Stripped-out screw hole next to strap knob filled with epoxy wood filler. New switch awaiting installation (that'll be last, I think). Everything generally cleaned up and polished.
Still to do: Stain end of dowel and epoxy filler bits. Refinish those two bits with glossy stuff. Replace pickup select switch. Reattach strap knobs. Replace tuners. Put bridge bits back on, adjust as appropriate. Restring.
I think I'd like to replace the bridge bits, too, but that will probably have to wait a bit, since that'll probably be a mail-order thing. The current bridge has little cheaply stamped-out pointy bits for the saddles, and I expect that to be pretty hard on my usual super-light strings. (I prefer 9s.) I'll have to see if I can easily replace it with a roller bridge... From a quick google search, it appears so.
Pictures of the fruits of my mighty woodworking skillz will be posted at some point, along with some sexy glamour pics of the mighty Fake Les Paul.
(It's a Hohner Professional L59, for the curious. I got it from one Mr. "j", if you know who that is, when he was moving to California. It's a nice guitar, with a few problems. When I'm done, ideally, it will be a nice guitar period. Perhaps even a _nicer_ guitar, period.)
