When will the shoe drop?

I keep checking CNN and news sites and waiting. When? What will it be? Monday night, things exploding? Tuesday, martial law? What will they do?

Part of the study I just completed was a weekly check on my mood, and whether I've been depressed, tense, and so on. "In the past week, have you had feelings of nervousness or tension?" I was asked. "No more than anyone else, I think," I replied.

An absence, not a presence

I read a column (can't find the link, sorry) that talked about this. The writer mentioned that the first surprise (arms for hostages) was only noticeable by an absence - the lack of the hostage's return. It was only put together after the fact.

I think the "October Surprises" this time around are all the negative stories that the Bush administraition is (more or less) keeping a lid on. Cheney's energy meetings, how Abu Ghraib happened, a planned re-re-invasion of Fallujah, $70 billion more for the war, corruption in the CPA, misuse of intelligence...

The US has known about Al Qaqaa being looted for 18 months, and the Iraqis just told the IAEA this month. All the other stories out there that aren't being reported - that's the October Surprise.

Honestly, what I think will happen is that there will be another dubious electoral result, like last time, and the recriminations and recounts will drag on forever and never get resolved. Which is making me grumpy as well.

The bad news is that they WILL get resolved. Poorly. Just like last time.
