Man. That's a huge mass of history gone there. Many times I've picked up an unfamiliar CD by a favorite artist and been delighted to find it full of Peel Sessions. Name a favorite band of the past 20 years and chances are he recorded them, and coaxed mighty performances from great musicians.
He'll certainly be missed. The music world is much the poorer for losing John Peel.

I've gathered the impression over the years that Wales is to Britain as Maine is to the USA - I take "music that you couldn't buy in Cardiff" to mean "pretty much bloody everything" - so I identify quite a lot with that statement. If I'm reading it right, it tells me everything I need to know about Peel's importance to British music fans...
