Killing Joke was AMAZING. Damn, what a show.

They walked on stage at 8:10pm and opened with "Communion," and they didn't stop or even slow down for an hour and fourty-five minutes. It was almost ten when they finished, playing "Pandemonium" as an encore. Along the way, they hit old ("Change," "The Fall of Because," "Requiem," "Wardance," "Follow The Leaders"), medium-old ("Kings and Queens"), and new ("Total Invasion," "Blood On Your Hands," and "The Death & Resurrection Show," which worked well even in the middle of the set). There was more-- I'm sure [livejournal.com profile] the_muted_horn will have the full set list at some point, since he was taking notes along the way. Notably missing was "Love Like Blood." Notably included was "Whiteout," which was a sort of electronic thing on Pandemonium but made a good straight-out rock song.

Jaz Coleman wore a ragged tunic stenciled with the outline of the vast spider petroglyph in Nazca, traling bones and feathers and hooded. His face was painted white and black, and by the time he'd roared his way through a dozen songs, he had sweated trails into it.

Geordie was totally laid-back, and spent about half the show looking very nonchalant as he played vast walls of guitar noise with what seemed no effort at all.

Raven was a scowling ogre in face paint and a POLITZEI shirt.

I couldn't really see the drummer ("the guy from the Swans") or the keyboard player (Nick something.) from where we were standing...

The show, though. Yeah. Nonstop. They didn't even slow down much. The crowd was mostly old fans about our age, so it was pretty pleasant overall, as was the atmosphere since the Boston smoking ban took effect.

The opening band was a forgettable hardcore band who had to fill in for the original opener, who couldn't make it.

Along the way to the show, we passed the line for the Death Cab For Cutie show, including sad ticketless emo youths trying to scam tickets from passers-by. "Extra tickets? Spare tickets?"

Fans of all three bands were pretty easily discernable from one another...

But, okay. Good show. I am becoming tired, and what little eloquence I usually can muster is fading. If you like Killing Joke and you get a chance to see them, do. They will not disappoint.
