Okay, when the bottle says it tastes like citrus, with lime and grapefruit notes, believe it. It's a sharp and VERY citrusy wine. In fact, I think the citrus notes make it more like drinking grapefruit juice than wine. Very acidic, and had we mentioned the citrus?

[livejournal.com profile] jehanna found it more to her taste, though. It certainly did pair with our dinner, a middle eastern spicy vegetable stew in a bowl made of a sweet squash cut in half. It's entirely possible that sauvignon blanc is simply not to my taste, as this is the first I've had, but I'm more than willing to give it the benefit of the doubt. I think I could be more in a mood for it. I think it would be a lovely refreshing drink for a hot summer afternoon.

The edge comes off as it opens up, though. Chilled, it's pretty sharp. It's still got a definite and very strong overtone of grapefruit, though. If you like that kind of thing, this is the wine for you. Find the right food with which to pair it, and it'd be lovely. I find it less to my taste, though, although I certainly wouldn't turn it down.

We have another sauvignon blanc in the basement for next time, and I'll have to see how that compares.
