Okay, that's frickin' hilarious. Rick Dekkard should be a pollster.
"Reaction time is a factor in this, so please pay attention." Classic line. Takes me back.
I actually had a substitute chemistry teacher in high school who saw me reading a book of Phil Dick's short stories. Apparently this guy went fishing with the author in Florida shortly before PKD died (so, after all the massive reality-altering insane hallucinaitons). He says of PKD, "He was an, um, interesting guy, but not very talkative." Which is a lot coming from this teacher, who is to this day one of the weirdest people I've ever met.
I loved #4's answer to the tortise question: The tortoise lays on its back, its belly baking in the hot sun, beating its legs trying to turn itself over, but it can’t, not without your help. But you’re not helping. Why is that, Tom? TA: That’s interesting. I don’t know. I’m a republican?
