So I was poking through Newbury Comics the other day, and I noticed that there's a very nice set of Revolting Cocks reissues out. I took a look, although I just picked up a used copy of Beers, Steers, and Queers, and I'm pretty sure that's all the Revolting Cocks I'm going to need for the foreseeable future.

On the strip of paper folded over the top of the jewel case (not the stupid sticker thing, an added info insert dealie over it) they listed the band members. Al Jourgensen, Paul Barker, Richard 23, and so on. You know, the usual Wax Trax suspects. It also mentioned other bands with which they might be associated. So, Ministry, Front 242, and so on.

One of the band members listed is Bill Rieflin. Who is, it seems, now playing with REM.

Yeah, that's right. Wee Willy Reefer, veteran of the Ministry, the Cocks, Pigface, Lard, and basically every other industrial group that came anywhere near Chicago, is now playing drums with REM.

I dunno. As far as I'm concerned, that's pretty far into the realm of cognitive dissonance.

You can get it from amazon, or do you just mean for less than the absurd 18 bucks they want for it?

Yup, that's the one. They were a lot of fun...

I also see that Rykodisc has released some of the old Wax Trax side projects on a single CD-- both 1000 Homo DJ's 12-inchers (TWELVE INCHES???), PTP, 2 of the 4 Acid Horse remixes, and the Pailhead EP. That last one is really good-- "I Will Refuse" is pretty cool overall, and I seem to recall that "Man Should Surrender" is yet another of Alain Jourgensen's Stigmata/Stainless Steel Providers/Chemical Imbalance bassline-hook things. (And we'll never see the Skatenig's first single out again, I bet.)

Frankly, seeing RevCo on Ryko (the label, for me, of Bowie re-issues, Zappa re-issues, and the Gyoto Monks) was plenty enough cognitive dissonance right there.

I did pick up the Side Trax disc to get a legit copy of "Supernaut", and it was strange to have a RevCo CD booklet that didn't smell bad. (I'm not kidding, either: all the ones from the Wax Trax! CDs had a certain distinctive cheap-offset-printing stench. I was never certain that wasn't intentional.)

Ayup.

Had a friend in school who was into Minor Threat-- his band even covered a few Minor Threat songs, including "Filler". So, yeah, I heard all about it...

My wife's mom's cousin's wife is Bill Rieflin's friend.

To add to your cognitive dissonance, Rieflin has one CD where he plays with Robert Fripp.
